Our new series of sculpted lights celebrate an exciting new design direction, and express Martin's long held involvement in sculpture and handbuilt plaster forms. Totem is an imposing sculptural lamp, taking inspiration from the power of our ancient human cultural and physical landscape.
Totem is from the new collection of handbuilt pieces which combine elemental shapes and textural marks, hinting at human forms and common myths. The work is a potent expression of the innately ancient, expressed in a modern style.
Working in plaster, Martin uses the properties of the material to sculpt and carve sweeping shapes with an evocative sense of heaviness and mass, gradually building and shaping the form over time. The complexity and richness of texture in the plaster creates a pleasing contrast with the smoothness of the fabric shade.
